Scilly Isles diving with Tim Allsop and Morvoren

Again we had a lovely time on the Isle of St. Martins with a few meals cooked in the dive flats and two meals out as group activity (not enough group activity for Ali).  From what we gather we were extremely lucky with the weather and managed to get to some of the more south westerly dive sites the Plympton with the Hathor on top of it, but not quite to the western rocks where a few more and older wrecks are situated, to the wreck Mando north of Tresco.

  • Day one we started with the Cita (lost in 1997) followed by the wreck of HAHA? just off the cliffs from the lighthouse south St Marys with some lovely anchors on the seabed.
  • Day two we did the Deep Ledge due north of the Daymark on St Martins.  After a couple of hours of break we did the Juno (line layed by Tim) just north of the Hard Lewis rocks.

  • Day three we did the Joes Reef (Bowl) and the King Cadwallon (on Hard Lewis rocks)
  • Day four was the turn of the two wreck site the Plympton with the Hathor almost at 90 degrees on top crossing each other at about 30m depth.  This was followed by the reef Southern parts of the Gilstone reef blocks.
  • Day 5 We did one of the oldest remains from the wreck Firebrand that had cannons and anchors spread out on a limited area of the seabed. This was followed by diving with the seals off the western point of Menawhetan.  It is always an adventure to have the seals play with you. Some of us had quite a close encounter almost dancing with them underwater, but not as gracious as they.

  • Day 6 we had to go north due to the weather  and dived the Wreck Mando west off the "rock" Menavaur.  After anchoring up for lunch and cylinder change we did another deep ledges North off the Tean and 75 degrees east from Round island with the light house on.

The Friday finished with a meal with most of the group gathered at Arthurs Bistro and cafe.  After yet again a fantastic diving holiday in the charge of Tim Allsop on his boat Morvoren it was time to bid farewell to the very welcoming people on St Martins including all Tim's helpers turning up in the summer to sneak a dive or two for a bit of anchor and shot handling.
