Cenote Diving

In December 4 people of the club set "sail" for the unique diving of the Cenotes using Puerto Aventuras as the base for the excursions.  Thanks to Beyoundearth dive opeartions in this area we have been presented with a plan for th enext 6 days:

Day 1 3rd Dec:

Meeting up with our guide Luis at the reception gave us the good feeling that this would be a good diving expedition.  On the first day for our check out dive took us to the the nearest Cenote which is Chac Mool and Kulkulkan A Picture for you to look at looking up into the sunlight.

Day 2:

This took us into the 3rd longest Cave system in the world called Dos Ojos (two eyes).  We did the first eye that is called Barbie and the second is called the Bat cave as we can surface inside it watching the Bats sleeping or more like being annoyed by us.

Day 3:

The first sea dive took us to the Southern tip of Cozumel showing us a smorgasboard of underwater life.  A bit different to the Red Sea, but new to us so two great dives were had.  In the waters off Cozumel is a rare Toadfish living (only found here) and we were lucky enough to spot it hiding under a rock.

Day 4:

Our next seadive took us up to Puerto Morales which has a marine nature reserve for diving and a boat that was scuttled for divers back in 2000.  Her name is Greco and has had "windows" cut out for safe penetration.  It is a small boat, but gives a scenic dive.

The second dive was a drift from tiny outcrop fingers to another sepearted by sand.  A great dive with lots of life.

Day 5:

Our final day of seadiving was just north of Playa del Carmen, which had changed beyond recognition.

Two good dives with varied content as you can see from below.  The Scorpionfish was a good size and well camouphlaged.  The green Mooray was a huge one and have had a fight or two.

Two good dives were had and once again we headed back to our hotel and favourite bar "The chill out bar".

As our dive guide was attending a dive show at Cozumel over the weekend gave us the weekend off for diving and we turned into proper tourist by viting the ancient Maya site Tulum (built around 1100).

Day 6:

We finished on a high with two dives in the Cenote Tajma Ha. They have this wonderful column the call the Leaning tower of Piza or should it be Maya.  In all the Cenotes when entering the perimeter limit for caverndiving (60m from nearest exit) there are signs where one can carry on for miles if getting lost.
